    Wiring for a Cooktop
    I am in the process of replacing a cooktop. I have a 30 amp line under my slab and can't be replaced. Most new units are asking for 40 amp line. Can these units be run on a 30 amp line if you don't use total power on the unit? Is the maximum power 6.9 kw for the 30 amp line or can it go to 7.3 kw.

    Thanks

    No, you need a 40 amp circuit for this run.

    If the cable is run through the concrete slab, is is inside of conduit?

    Current = wattage/voltage or 6800/240 or 28.75 A

    If your willing to live,probably with not using 4 burners at a time and the stove, then that's what will happen. If you wire to a 30 A circuit, you will be plagued with nuscense trips every time someone "forgets".

    Wire paths through the attic or even outside the house should be addressed.

    One other gotcha is that the stove may require a 4 wire 240 V supply and you may only have 3.
