I need to buld a power pole for a well that will be drilled. I already have a pole to use.

I know I need the weather head, conduit to meter box, conduit to breaker box, conduit to underground, and ground rods.

What I cannot seem to find is a 100A outdoor breaker panel with a main breaker and a few spaces for breakers. All I can find is a 100A "Main Lug". This does not have a main breaker.

Can I add a Main Breaker to a Main Lug? Will I have to put some disconnect switch between meter an Main Lug.

I only need to run the well pump (220) and maybe a light switch (110).

If you go to an electrical distributor, they can find a NEMA 3R Raintight Panel with a main breaker and branch breaker slots. These are very common, more than you may realize.

Every brand of panelboard makes them, just not sure what brand is sold in your area.

Not what you ask but, why would you want 100 amps at a well pole. Twenty amps for pump and 20 for auxiliary should be all you could use? Just asking.

The Grainger box is what I was looking for - except it has way more spaces than I need. Cannot find them at Lowe's, or Home Depot. Guess I am looking in the wrong places.

This will be a 60 amp service, and I had not heard of a 60 amp box with main breaker - or a 40A.

I really would like the simplest, cheapest solution since it is just for a well pump.

Does he need a main breaker? Seems to me that all he would need is a 40 amp/4 space water proof disconnect box.

Beats me what is needed, just trying to answer the questions as given.

Panels come in various sizes of branch circuits, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and so on.

A 12 circuit Main Lug Only NEMA 3 R can be used, for instance, with two circuits used a 2 pole 60 Amp, backfeed with the incoming lines, use a retainer kit since this breaker will be the Main. This would leave 10 poles for branch circuits.
