When you replaced the distributor, did you use a genuine Honda distributor housing?

    What engine?
    DX, LX, or EX?

It sounds like the CYL Position Sensor is bad. I've never encountered this, however, on a genuine Honda distributor housing. You may have a defective distributor.

Did Honda replace the timing belt or did a local mechanic?

The Cylinder Position Sensor is located inside the distributor--it is not serviceable. I would return your Honda distributor and get another one. Over half of all new aftermarket distributors for Hondas are bad out of the box. I've never seen a bad geneuine Honda distributor that was new, however. Other than that, I don't know what else to advise.

I only recommend using genuine Honda distributor housings. It's fine, however, to install aftermarket ICMs and coils in them.

I think you know the distributor is bad because it is throwing a very distinct Code 1381.

Hi, My 97 civic just started showing an error code 1381 (P1381--Cylinder Position Sensor Intermittent Interruption). My understanding is that if it is a problem with the individual sensors, the distributor has to be replaced - because they don't sell the individual sensors. Last July the...
