Hi,
I have just had my Laundry renovated by a friend of a friend. When he ripped it up he found that I had a PVC pipe (from laundry sink unit) into old ceramic pipe in the ground. I asked him to fit it in the same way it was achieved before.

Now I have a small (but still significant) amount of water coming up through the grout around the PVC piping after turning on the tap.

My question is, if this needs to be ripped up can a plumber connect a PVC pipe to a ceramic pipe properly? Or does the Ceramic piping underground need to be ripped up and replaced?

Also, does this sound very expensive?

You may have something similar to ceramic like a glazed clay tile. You need to open the place on the floor to inspect how he connected PVC to glazed. Friend of a friend but not a plumber , right? No plumber would tap into a glazed tile to connect PVC. This sounds like a jury rigged project from long ago. Any chance of a picture?

You told us everything except how the PVC was connected to the Terra-Cotta pipe in the first place or how your "friend of a friend" made the connection. What size PVC and Terra-Cotta pipe are we speaking about? Did he use a coupling, (se images) or did he simply jam oneinto the other and grout it with something? Let me know. Tom
