Time of a civics lesson on how the US government works.

Obama can't do anything unless it is funded by Congress. Congress holds the purse strings. Obama only has power till he runs out of money, then he needs Congress' approval for more money.

That's part of the "checks and balances" system of our three-part government. The Executive (the President) controls the military and police, the Legislative (Congress) controls the purse strings and makes the laws, and the Judicial (Supreme Court) interprets the Constitution and the body of existing law.

That is why control of Congress is so important to the political parties. By controlling the money, they control how far a President can go in his policies. If you can't win the Presidency, you might as well take control of the body that can LIMIT the damage that president can do.

So if Congress goes on vacation, Obama can only "do anything he wants" until he runs out of money. Then he needs Congress to fund him.

So the best way to reagn in ALL of government, including Obama, is to make sure that Congress goes on perpetual vacation so that they can't fund his idiotic policies. The MOST that Obama would be able to do is spend the remainder of this year's regular budget on his policies. He won't be able to call for special funding for underfunded projects, he won't be able to pass a budget for next year, he won't be able to order a box of paper clips without the proper funding.

Actually, if you will read my post, you will find that Galveston's post was 100% correct. He would like to see Congress on perpetual vacation as well, which is what his post said.

Clete responded to that statement by asking if Gal wanted Obama to get away with everything. I responded with my "civics lesson" on how Congress being on vacation would actually PREVENT Obama from getting away with everything.

The very point of my question Elliot, no congress leaves Obama operating with the budget he has and time to create a dictatorship or spill the congress with an election. You would not want the President operating without the check of congress or placed in the position where there is a crisis, the Government ceases to exist, or he just might declare martial law.
