    The thermostat doesn't turn off
Please help! The a/c doesn't turn off (even when on Auto or Off positions) The unit outside turns off, but the thermostat doesn't turn off. The A/C company said I need a new thermostat (it was just changed 2 months ago!) and it would cost me $160 to change the thermostat! When I opened the thermostat, 2 wires (brown and blue) were not connected. Could that be a problem? I have a Carrier thermostat (a 2 year old house)
    Thank you.

Can you describe what you mean by,, thermostat doesn't turn off. You say outside unit turns off. Does inside blower turn off. Did your ac company actually come to your home and trouble shoot your system, or was it just a guess over the phone? You need to have a pro come to your house and fix this problem.

Thank you for your answer. The cooling turns off when I switch the thermostat in 'off' position. However, the unit in the garage still circulates the air in the house. I was wondering if the two wires inside the thermostat (2 are disconnected blue and brown) could have been somehow released.
Yes, I had the AC person come, however, I am getting quite upset about this. This is a 3 person/company over last 3-4 months. First one changed a thermostat, second one did the maintenance (everything was fine), the third one billed me $80 diagnostic fee and wanted $160 for changing a basic, non-programmable thermostat yet again.
Our friends suggested buying a thermostat and changing it myself. It seems that it would be less expensive. Before I do that or spend money again on the AC pro, I am trying to see if the disconnected wires in the thermostat have anything to do with it... Thank you so much.

You never stated exactly what type of system you have OR the exact model numbers and name brand. In many cases the brown and blue wire is not used but that depends upon if you have a heat pump, gas furnace, electric furnace ETC.

If as you said the thermostat is 2 months old and it was sold to you by the same company then it is under the manufactures warranty and should be replaced for free.
