1995 Ford Windstar vehicle over amp's battery
A friend's 1995 Ford Windstar van has been overcharging (amp) the battery.
This effect has made the battery overheat & leak.
The alternator has been changed a few times,
and so has the battery.
**the battery's light appears when driving, and then disappears when coming to a stop..?
[Charged the battery],
operated ok for part of the day,
but the battery became damaged-hot, sizzling, sides where extended,
and another (used but good condition) was used.
This battery's water was low,and needed a charged.
(When removing the positive clamp it was hot.)
The vehicle was driven 3 miles to the residence and parked.
(Or unabled to start.)
The vehicle is automatic 3.8 engine.
This problem might of happened after a stereo was installed, {?} The stereo works fine->?
If anyone has any information or suggestions please send them to: [email protected]
Thanxs!

. Perform the tests in the link below:

It sounds like the voltage regulator is bad, which is easy to replace on Fords, or the stereo is stressing the battery/charging system too much. Consider installing a larger battery, with greater amperage, and upgrading the alternator, if the problem persists. The stress may be too much and the battery and alternator are being destroyed. Talk to a stereo installer and see what they advise.
. Install battery cover, to prevent the battery from being damaged by under hood heat--very important.
Many auto parts stores will test alternators and batteries for free.

Thanks for your answer!
There is no burn marks on the inside of the hood, but the battery wasnt secured.
If the voltage regulator is bad could it be checked?
(??) > by starting the van,
and removing one of the cables to the battery?
or, is that for just the alternator?

Here's how to check the voltage regulator:
Start engine and attach the red test lead, from your multimeter, to the Positive (+) battery terminal and the black test lead to the Negative (-) battery terminal. Regulated battery voltage, with the engine running, should be approximately 14 to 15 volts.
