My ceiling fan makes a humming noise, but does not spin unless I spin it. It then will only spin on high. The two other sitting will not work. When I try to decrease spin it turns off. Any suggestions

Also agree on capacitor. What make is the fan?

VERY RARELY this is an open winding. Can also be the reverse switch. But capacitor is most likely.
