    Pain with crowns
My 5 year old got crowns put on her teeth 3 weeks ago (aug 10)

Everything has been fine until today. She said chewing a cheeto was hurting her crown so she had to suck on it instead.

I pressed on both crowns and she said it didn't hurt.

What could cause this? Should we see her dentist?

Cheetos aren't that hard so really they should cause her any difficulty. Have you checked around the gums? Are they bright and pink or dark and red? If they're dark or red they're irritated. That could be what is causing the pain.

It should be fairly well healed after 3 weeks.

    Is it sensitive to hot/cold?

Was a root canal done on this tooth?

If this continues it will need to be checked.

    Thanks medic-dan.
Ill check her gums tomorrow morning she is already in bed asleep. They don't seem to be sensitive to hot and cold. They didn't do a root canal, but I'm pretty sure they did fill in in before crowning it. They crowned it because its 2 molars and she will keep them for several more years. Where as the other 1 cavity was simply filled in because it was a regular tooth that will fall out soon. At least that's how they explained it to me.

Ill let you know in the morning if her gums are sore or not.

Although I'm not sure why she says it hurt lol. She brushed her teeth and it didn't hurt. And like you said, cheetos aren't very hard

    Jennie,

Check for a bump on the gum where the crown is... there could be an abscess. This bump could come and go so don't just check one time. Kids don't often get the hot and cold sensitivity that adults get when their nerve is dying but they WILL avoid chewing on the tooth. Give her a carrot or something else crunchy and just watch how she's chewing. If she isn't chewing on the side where the crown is, there could be a problem.

If you aren't seeing any pink in the sink when she brushes the tissues around the crown should be OK.
