    Mother rights over grandmother
Hey my name is yazmin. Im not an unfit mother and I always like being with my kids. I have a 2 daughters, Mikayla and Mia. I currently live with my boyfriend, Michael and he is the father to my daughter Mia which is only 6 months old. My boyfriend and I think his mother is a very over whelming person because she always wants Mia to stay over her house. Now I don't like leaving Mia over night with her because she always tries to act like she's the mother and always tries to see over my head with decisions about the baby. Since the baby hasn't slept over and now I barely want to go to her house, she's upset and says she will take me and her son to court for her grandmother rights. Can she do that or what kind of rights can she get? Keep in mind that my boyfriend and I have our own apartment and we are not unfit parents. Someone please tell me what can be the worst that can happen.

What state/country do you live in because only a very few states/places are starting grandparent rights from what I understand.

If she did and won I doubt she would get much rights. She really can't get any where with an unfit parent thing just to get her way.

And to add to that, grandparents rights rarely factor in if the grandparents link to the child is still in the picture.

A court is very reluctant to overrule parents that are present. They cannot force a relationship between parent and child.

My advice (and this is what we had to do with my stepson) is cut the grandmother off until she can accept your rules and your terms. IF she wants to go and fight for visitation, go to court, tell them that you would love to have a relationship with her but she refuses to follow your parental rules and the case should be thrown out.
