Hello Charles. You have just walked into a hornets nest. STOP what you are doing and reconsider this.

First it takes a seasoned professional to figure out most zoning systems and yours is compounded by the fact that it is a heat pump.

Second is the fact that you have three wire dampers and they can be stinkers to work with. These work with a common wire and power wires for both open and closing. Usually the brand is Trol-A-Temp by Honeywell.

Third and most important is a warning about the magic smoke. All it takes is one wire located to the wrong connection and your system will let out the magic smoke. If this happens be ready for a HUGE repair bill since most of the controls and wiring will be destroyed.

Since I am not there to actually oversee the situation and since trying to do this on a message board is just about impossible I am passing on the above information.

That is not to say that you may get lucky and all works correctly when you are done but personally I want no part of this since my past experiences with message boards have left me with the conclusions above. I have personally wired many zoning systems and most were far more complex than the one you have but I had a advantage of having all the control circuits, equipment details etc on site while doing the work. This type of work is hard to do by remote control if you know what I mean.

I wish you good luck in your endeavors and here are a few links to some of your zoning toys.

Good thing I looked before I leaped, especially when there is a hornets nest with magic smoke at the bottom. Thank you for your answer.. Question can I leave system as is and add new thermostat in place of old thermostat 1.

While it is possible to do that my warning still stands. When you are dealing with the type of system you have sometimes the wiring will just not work out.

As long as X is common for sure and

B is first stage heat it might work BUT

These terminals might work the dampers or other relays or end switches. This is something we do not know. If you really have to do it at your own peril.

Thanks again: I will take your advice and hire a pro because the risk is not worth the gain.

Smart move. This way if they mess it up they get to fix it for free.
