This is a Scotts/John Deere 42" lawn mower with the 17hp B&S engine.
I am searching for the oil drain plug that comes with this combination.
It is an extended 4" pipe with a shut-off.
Where can I find and purchase this part?

I will give you three part numbers:
John Deere - #AM119686
Kohler - #25 755 14-S
Stens - #125-237
You can probably use the Yellow Pages to get by one or more of those numbers. Kohler made the part, best I can tell.

Hi Clark, I already have these on my engines.
The problems is trying to tighten them to the engine, they leak at the engine block and are very difficult to tighten and keep tight with different engines.
I am looking for an extension piece to extend this oil drain valve.
The older engines were delivered with a long flex hose with a square nut on the end of the hose.
Those were the days when one could easily access the hex nut against the engine to keep that connection tight and leak free.
Now days, it is a nightmare for most engines as the oil drain valve hex nut is against the engine with no space to adequately and correctly tighten the valve.
You might be lucky, but all of my engines happen to be designed where this nut cannot be tightened, not enough space around the nut to work.
So, do you know where I can find an oil drain valve extension?
I rigged one engine with a 3" long 3/8" threaded pipe and coupling where I added the existing oil drain valve. This worked perfect actually.
The drain is extended, now tight to the engine block (no more mess there) and now easy to change the oil (no more mess here).

It is indeed 3/8 pipe thread and available at any place that sell plumbing supplies, called a nipple.
I always found those flex tubes to be problematic. I know where to find metric ones but not English dimensions. Those numbers are for the 1/8 turn drain that you put a piece of 1/2" Piece of tubing (also in plumbing) on to drain without a mess.

Actually, a hose is better than a pipe extension!!
This is the old method, that worked, and they changed it??

Hi,
Had not thought that anything on a Kohler Command was not metric, so I did not consider the older Deere Mid-Z; but they use such a hose.

I purchased some brass nipples, couplers, couplings and the like today to extend the old drain plug a few inches with a better handle on the hex nut to tighten against the engine. I added the original drain plug to the outer end of the 3/8" brass fittings and this seems to work just fine, at least much better than the briggs setup.
