How to compact soil for concrete floor
I am building a concrete home, and need to fill and compact about 4 feet of soil before poring the floor. I will use a jumping jack compactor. How much moisture and how deep should each layer be before compacting?

Specifications for manual tampers fill usually require no more than six inch (measured loose) lifts. Moisture content varies with the type of soil.
Your application is very critical. I would recommend that you have a professional soil testing company approve the fill material and perform compaction testing. They will determine the optimum moisture content as part of the process.

You need a engineering firm and soil testing for moisture and composition. And a lot bigger equipment. Unless you are building an extremely small home you won't live long enough to move into it with this approach.

I am pouring piers for an exterior deck soon, but upon digging the holes, I realize/remember that close to the house the earth was dug out and back-filled for the basement. That was 3 years ago, but the earth is still really easy to dig through in some places. It is clay. My questions are: (1)...
