    Walter Cronkite Dies At 92
I just heard that Walter Cronkite has died at 92. I wasn't born in 1963, but I remember seeing him delivering the tragic news that president Kennedy had been assassinated. It was an unforgettable moment, and he delivered the news with class. In 1968, he had the good sense and courage to say that the Vietnam war was not winnable when it was still considered traiterous to say it. President Johnson said if he lost Cronkite, he lost middle America. I can see why he was called the most trusted man in America. He was one of a kind and the news will never be the same again.

May he rest in peace .
I will say that his coverage of the space program was exceptional . However ,his declaring Vietnam unwinnable was absolutely the wrong thing to do ;especially after the whooping the US troops gave the NV army during TET . As we learned later by NV Col. Bui Tin ;the rear guard action of the American press and the anti-war movement was crucial to secure their victory.

He had a reputation for being unbiased in his news coverage.I guess by today's standards it was .But I wonder if that was more reputation than fact ,and that his "most trusted" reputation was a carefully crafted image. He was the anchor at a time when there were few options in television news broadcasts.

A Cronkite was only possible in the three network days that gave news consumers very little choice. Thankfully, those days are over, and biased coverage is quickly exposed. America will never trust another newsman again like they trusted Uncle Walter .And that in my view is a good thing.
