An argument with a bi-polar person tends to turn personal, quickly. If you are just having a general argument, it is highly likely to turn highly personal. This can occur even before you realize it has occurred, until it is too late and the damage has been done. One of the most important things to realize is that many bi-polar people are unable to control their temper, emotions, and actions at times.

This is not to say that those who are bi-polar are violent. However, they do tend to be very short tempered, and agitated easily.

While most who are bi-polar do attempt to control their urge's and emotions, they find it difficult to maintain focus , or even care what is going on around them .

Most who are bi-polar do not want to discuss their medication habits, or lack of. This can be a major cause for problems.

Bipolar people have two distinct personalities. At one end of the pole, they are extremely happy. This mood can last for weeks or months. On the other end of the pole, they are extremely depressed or angry. This mood can also last for weeks and months. This behavior disorder has also been known as manic depressive. Unfortunately, because of this behavior disorder, they usually cannot hold down a full time job. Also, for obvious reasons, they have a difficult time with relationships with family and friends. Medication helps somewhat, but it doesn't seem to be enough to make changes in their lives.

Maybe you need to have a long hard think about if you are ready to make the commitment this type of relationship needs?

Seeking expert advice is the only solution.
Awesome post hon. I come at this from the opposite end of the spectrum, as I am the bipolar one, and I know I put my husband through heck sometimes. And he is so good to me and is so patient with me. Sometimes I feel like I don't deserve him with the way I treat him sometimes. It is SO hard for a loved one to be with/care for a person with bipolar. Especially when its your lover/spouse. I for one hope that the OP is willing to try and help her rather than just run away from her, as it seems like he honestly loves her.

Bipolar does not mean crazy provided she is compliant with her meds. Taking vicodin is a sign of comorbidity which is common with bipolar persons.
Check out the drug interactions of her meds, this can help you figure out stuff, especially bipolar becomes worse is she is taking tegretol with an anti-psychotic.

I don't quite understand what you mean sleek12, do you mean that she shouldn't be taking tegretol with an anti psychotic? I am taking tegretol with geodon which is an anti psychotic, which helps better than anything I have ever tried.

    Hi Jennie pepsi,
I am afraid your pdoc messed up , he should have use lamictal instead of tegretol (there is a CYP 450 induction on geodon with tegretol) , you will eventually get worse if you don't substitute soon, besides tegretol is NOT FDA approved for bipolar like Lamictal. Your pdoc must be a new foreign chap as he is not up to the current news with bipolar meds. Believe me, I have saved you today. He must have put you on those meds due to weight factor but also lamictal does NOT cause weight gain but takes like a week to work.

Mmm ill talk to my doctor. I know that tegritol is technically an anti seizure med, but I have done reaserch that says, while not FDA aprooved, it has been used a lot with bipolar and other mood disorders succsesffully. I haven't had any problems yet, but I will deifnately talk to my doc. Thanks sleek.
