My husband took her to the vet this morning and they were going to do x-rays and she died on the x-ray table. The vet said that somehow her intestines got twisted up. There was nothing we could do. I just hope we didn't make her last day miserable because we were forcing her to eat. I hope she knew we loved her and were just trying to make her better.

I'm sorry to hear about your little girl.
I'm sure she was not miserable, dogs seem to understand when you are trying to help them.

This is actually very common, especially in large dogs.

Two of my cousins dogs died of this, and really, there isn't anything you can do.

You did your best to help her, to make her comfortable, to keep her alive. Of course she knew you loved her, dogs always do.

There's a saying about dogs; they'll only disappoint you once. It's so true.

Allow yourself to grieve, don't allow any guilt, it wasn't your fault.

Remember her, cherish the memories, know that you gave her as much happiness as she gave you.

We're all here if you want to talk. Sadly we've all experienced the loss of a fur baby. That's the one thing that's a guarantee when you bring an animal into your life.

Too bad, but you tried really hard and appeared to have insight into the problem.

I know this poem gets said a lot but it is really a beautiful piece.
I still cry when I read it, happy tears though.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

I knew I would cry, so I refused to read it again. Lost too many dogs from old age, why can't they out live me?

I still have Winstons ashes to add to Bobs in the garden and haven't done it yet, it's just too permanent.

It's nice that you want to add something, but please keep in mind that not everyone is religious, not everyone believes in God.

It's best to keep well wishes neutral.

    Thank you.
