Standing bath shower is filled with drainage stuff-Please help
Hi, I've got quite a situation going here. I own single family house (Rambler Type), and have a main level and a Basement. The Main level has two full bath rooms and the Basement has one full bathroom (standing bath and a toilet sink). We rarely use the Bath room in the Basement. It is only used by some guest who visits once in a blue moon. And we also have a Washer and Dryer in the Basement. Recently 3 weeks back when I went to see the Bathroom in the Basement ,I discovered that the standing bath shower is filled with drainage stuff (I guess it is pupu) ,So we cleaned it with water and went to Costco and bought drain opener gel and used it as instructed to open the drain . And when we flushed the toilet ,the water didn’t flush ,rather it came out of the toilet sink. So I closed the water supply to the toilet sink to avoid flooding.
For one week everything worked OK and it was clean and working OK. Again after that I went to see the Bathroom in the Basement. Again I noticed the same (filled with drainage stuff). We cleaned it again and this time I noticed when this is happening. This is happening when we flush the toilets in the Main level. When we flush the toilets in the Main level ,that is coming out in the Basement bath room sink. This is real annoying. What could be the problem. Please give me some tips Thanks |

You already know you have a blockage. This blockage's downstream from the basement bathroom. I hope you have a cleanout installed in the stack in the basement because you're going to hafta snake out the main in the basement. If you don't have a cleanout the only way to get to it is from a vent. Good luck. Tom

A cleanout tee, sometimes called a test tee is a tee with a removable cover installed on a stack for easy access to the drainage system for the purpose of snaking it. Without a cleanout tee you are forced to snake from a roof vent. You ask about installing one. Installing a cleanout tee in a basement stack requires a plumber. This is not a job for the homeowner.
