    Packaged units?
    How much trouble is the ductwork if someone were to swap a split air conditioner system to a package unit. I feel like these split systems are just a crazy design. It seems that a packaged unit that is run in by the factory eliminates all the finger pointing between the installers and the factory and is obvious that the factory is to blame when a unit goes bad because it's a stand alone sealed unit. I'm researching a 7yr no hassle warrantied unit that is a 14 seer heatpump for my landlady. The Goodman junk she's spent a fortune on is not worth considering in my opinion.

    Nothing wrong with Goodman if it is installed correctly./ The same goes for most other HVAC manufactures. Packaged units are OK but when its 20 below they are a real pain to repair and that is usually when most furnaces break. LOL

    The duct work from the outside to the inside will have to be adapted to the duct from the split system. The difficulty depends upon how the other system was installed and the skill of the new package unit installer. All exterior duct must be insualted which adds to the fun and expense.

    I have read some of HVAC1000 replies and would trust him to Install the worst eqipment made and make it perform better than better made products. The point I am making is that there are SO many lousy Instalations that a packaged unit with the better designed (skroll) compressors and no hassel replacement means the factory is sure of its design. The return ducts seem to be the main problem in this dwelling (being 2 story) The supply ducts and register were installed by a payne installer and seem to be expertly placed and well insulated. The new return ducts to install this package unit could present a problem. This is Mississippi so the severe cold would not be a factor though.
