    Heat and AC run simultaniously
    Had a new T-stat installed while having system inspected. Now when I switch to cooling from heating both run at the same time. What the.. Is the new T-stat wired wrong? Very frustrating! Please help.

    Do you have gas heat or electric?

    OK, well can you take the new stat off and tell me what wires you have hooked to what terminals? Also look to make sure nothing is touching but the rh and rc termanal

    The wire old with cotton insulation and there don seem to be any markings on the terminals. This was professionally installed while I was there but the wiring is hard to make out because of the excess insulation there.

    Sounds like the new thermostat is either intended or configured for a heat pump system.
