Heater won't come on but A/C does
We had a horrific ice storm a few months back that left us without power for 9 days. When we got power back our Heil gas furnace would not do anything. When you flip switch nothing is heard on unit at all. We did try out a/c on same unit and it is working fine. Any ideas? Repairman here and left only recharging freon and left before I got home to talk to him about heater problem. Thank you.

So complete unit is located outside (heat and cool)? Don't come across these much in my area. Hope Josh can help you out.

I'm pretty sure it does not have a pilot light and has the other. The lady at the repair shop said she called the repairman and he just glanced at it when he did freon and thought something could be wrong with heat exchanger and he would call me sometime. When I called them to come out he was supposed to fix both heat and air and did not. That is why I'm trying to find out if he's taking us for a ride.

Well if it is a bad heatexchanger that is not good. But that would not in any way keep the furnace from coming on. Inless he unhooked something to prevent it from turning on.

It wasn't working before he ever came, so I know he didn't unhook anything. If in fact the heat exchanger is also bad are we talking a new unit? I just thought it strange that fan works with a/c but nothing works with heater. Thanks for all your help.

If the heat excanger is bad then yes a new unit is in order. Is your furnace outside? Or in the basement?

Could be a limit switch or a flame roleout switch. Theses would keep your heat from coming on.
