    Need title for Jeep
We paid off the loan for a Jeep in Chapter 13. Bank One was sold to another institution before we got our title. The new institution doesn't have any record of us or the Jeep. We sent a certified letter to the address where the bankruptcy court sent the full payment in March but this is June and we've heard nothing. We need to sell the Jeep but can't get the title because it still has a lien on it. Bureau of Motor Vehicles can't help. Any way we can get the title and remove the Lien? Thanks.

If you know someone who owns a mechanic shop that would be perfect or a parking garage. What you do is you talk to the owner and tell him your situation and it would really help if you knew him because he would do it for free but if not what they do is they hold on to the Jeep in the garage and after some time is went by maybe a month or two then the parking garage or the mechanic shop files the forms with motor vehicles and then he'll have a lien on it now,so when that's done you will probably have to then pay them off.because nobody does nothing for free.----That's the only way I've seen it done and please also remember that the courts take for ever in getting back to you.

Bank One became JP Morgan Chase. That's who you'd have to contact.

I'm not understanding - if you filed for bankruptcy, the court would NOT have paid off the Jeep; they would have discharged the debt, which means you are not liable to pay for it.

Find out who the lienholder is and make sure that the debt was properly discharged. If it was, send a certified letter asking for a certified lien release. Include as much documentation as you can.

If they continue to insist that they have no records for you, request a certified letter from them stating that they have no interest in the vehicle and will not pursue it. A customer of mine was able to use a letter of that intent to as a lien release to sell one of his vehicles after he filed for bankruptcy and was in the same boat as you are.

If it was a Chapter 13, they may have had the Jeep in the BK but been required to pay it off under new (or the same) terms.

The point of a Ch 13 is to get assistance paying off the debt but still hold onto your assets.

Or, depending on how much "equity" the jeep had, the entire debt may have been discharged and the OP could still keep the jeep.
