    no throttle response from ford 6.0 diesel
    2005 6.0 diesel 4x4 dually auto with 70K.

    I have an intermittent no throttle response problem and the engine goes into a safe mode. After shutting it off I am able to restart and usually regain complete throttle response. The local dealer replaced the entire throttle unit and the problem persists. The dealer stated that they took a shot at the fix from past experience as there where no codes set from the numerous manifestations of this problem.

    What is the next item that I need to look at? Is there a culprit or is there a list of 60 or more possibilities? Obviously the throttle is not the problem.

    Where does the acceleration signal go to from the throttle unit?

    Throttle Position Sensor is what I would check for smooth operation and solid electrical connection.

    . Reset the ECM--force it to relearn everything, since the algorithm may have been corrupted. Did you install a "performance" chip?

    . Pay close attention to whether you change the engine oil and filter regularly, oil level, and oil pressure. Personally, I would only use full-synthetic diesel HDEO in a turbo diesel. Many diesel engine problems are a function of the condition and the type of oil selected; e.g. turbo coking, EGR problems (which are common on 6.0 PSDs), and oil pressure (which affects fuel), and other unusual issues.     The dealer relaced this entire unit. Problem still persists but didn't re manifest itself unitl about 100 miles after the replacement. Perhaps the replacement of some seal that was under the turbo had something to do with it? Another dealer did some work to this truck and said they had to replace a seal. That had to do with the HP oil pump. Problem did present itself the first time AFTER this work was done.

    Also I've read that the FICM could be the issue here as well.

    Thoughts?

    TX: Lived in the great Country twice, NAC and Marfa!

    How do I reset this ECM. Disconnect the batteries? Or is there an electronic reset required?

    You can try disconnecting both batteries (record any radio codes first); however, it might require a code reader or scan tool.

    Radio Codes? Ok What the heck is a radio code?

    To help prevent radio thefts, codes must sometimes be entered in the radio, when the battery is reconnected. Otherwise, the radio won't work.

    TX: Where are these code located? Are they internal and can they be read ouot by some method of knob/switch indicator sequence? I have heard of these now that you said they need to be re-entered but I have never had to deal with it.

    They are normally recorded, by the dealer, in the front of the Owner's Manual. Sometimes, they may be recorded inside the glove box. The original dealer may provide the code, if they feel comfortable with who you are. I've heard of some charging $100.
