My chihuahua
Hi,
I have a seven month old chihuahua male whom I bought to use as a stud dog but he has no testicles should I be worried or is there still plenty of time for them to appear yet.
Thanks linda .

Hi Linda.
Are you a registered breeder?
Where di you purchase this puppy from? Another registered breeder?
There isn't much you can do if you bought the puppy off a regular backyard breeder as they pretty much have no rights with selling dogs.
Testicles can drop down up to around 4 months.

Good to hear :)
Sorry, I'm just a bid advocate for people not breeding unless they are registered and have done gentic testing etc...
We have had a couple of mini poodles who's testicles haven't dropped or only one has dropped...
Others just took longer to come down, You can take your puppy to your vet and get him to have a feel and see how far they are up in the groin.
You can usually tell by feeling how far up they are whether they have a chance of coming down or not...
You can try to feel yourself but there is no guarantee how accurate it will be...
Sit the pup on your knee so he is upright with his legs apart... push gently around either side just above where the testes should be... the 'no guarantees' part of this is that the pup can actually retract them if you are poking around there.
:)

Oh just to add, if they don't come down you must get the dog neutered... they cannot be left inside the dog as they can often turn cancerous :)

Hi,
I did take to to to vet he recomented I have him castrared ,but the breeder said I shoud wait until he is nine month and see if they come down I haven't decided what to do yet.
I too believe in having dogs genecitad testing I have bred toy poodles for fourteen years and they all have been pra eye tested ,plus I still keep them after there breeding days are over I have six oldies at present ranging from 6 to 15.

lol no worries :)
Yeah pra is the killer with poodles, there are so many people who don't test for it and end up with problems.
I know you would know this being a breeder but I'll mention it for others reading this thread :)
With PRA (blindness) there are basically 3 ratings that a dog is tested for...
A = Not blind, will not produce puppies with blindness, not a carrier.
B= Not blind but carries the blindness gene.
C= Blind. Carries the gene...
They MUST be tested as quite often they do not lose their sight until they are older and a lot of people have already bred fro a dog with PRA before they actually become blind.
I personally haven't finished reading the book but my mum has read a book called "How to Breed Dogs"
It is basically the breeding bible!
It has every bit of info you could think of in it.
It was written over the span of about 20 years I think and the writer studied and bred litters of Great Danes, testing how genetic traits were passed on...
Anyway, enough of the genetics lecture haha
Good to see a responsible breeder on here!! :)
As for your chihuahua, You can wait until 9 months.. it is possible, but unlikely.
If you can't at least feel them sometimes (by sometimes I mean one day they are there, the next they are not) by 4 months then it is very unlikely they are going to stay down.
Is there any way you could get a replacement puppy?
If she is a registered breeder and the dog was intended for stud then she should either offer you your money back or a replacement puppy out of her next litter.
If the dog is either a cryptorchid or monorchid then you have to let the breeder know as it can be passed on from the father :)

I agree with shazamataz. If your vet says to neuter then neuter. His testicle will most likely not drop! Your vet knows, they went to school for a long time, I am currently still in school(4years now into it), to be a vet. Your friend may be telling you what you want so she doesn't have to pay up for the pup. PLEASE REALLY LOOK INTO ANY PUPPY THAT YOU BUY!! Just cause she has papered dogs doesn't mean they are great quality dogs. Testing is the only for sure way to know if you have great quality dog.
I am sorry but I take breeding and showing very serious! It is now= different then having a kid yourself! Pups, even if they are with another family, are still your responsibility.
