Grass not growing under maple tree
We have a big maple tree outside our back window. Since we moved in 7 years ago I can not get grass to grow under it. Early spring grass will start and then die and we have a dirt pit. I have thought about building a deck under the tree but then there is the problem of roots causing the deck to shift. There is concreting under the tree and then the concrete will crack. Any other suggestion or ways to ge the grass to grow?

    Thanks
    Jackes

Maples have extremely dense roots. Grass typically won't grow under maple trees. Is it possible to mulch instead, at least a 3' diameter circle?
