    Electric wire 10/3
I have a 200 amp panel with a 10/3 wire running to a shed, then hooked to a 110 receptable.
My question is can I take the 10/3 wire and change the 110 circuit to 220 ?

    Thanks
    Dave

Cigarboy, Stan is a stickler for telling everyone that there is no 220 anymore. But for your question, yes you can. Your 10/3 can safely handle a 30 amp, 2 pole breaker. You will need a ground from the panel to the outlet. I'll assume the ground wire is intact on the 10/3.

True enough, but also the fact that "220" is meaningless without knowing the amperage. It is a chronic DIY mistake to think that "220" is all that matters. Sorry for my intolerance.

    Yes, a 10/3 cable can be used for a 120v, 240v, or 120/240v circuit at 15, 20 or 30 amps.

Typically it is used for a 120/240v - 30a circuit, such as a dryer or wall oven.

I'm hoping someone can help with this question. We are installing an electric wall furnace, 240 volt, 38 amp, 9.2kwh. I was told by the guy at the hardware store to use size 8 wire. The instructions (?? ) that come with the unit don't sat anywhere what size is to be used! Is size 8 wire correct?...
