    National Arbitration
My husband received a document from West Asset c/o Law Offices of Gerald E Moore and Assoc. It is stating that this is an arbitration claim against you etc. I am confused. Nowhere on the document is there a court filing, case number, no lawyer license number. It does have Forum File Number and Claimant Reference Number.
How can I check if this is an actual legal thing happening that we need to respond to. I've been reading lots of stuff online and it seems that there should be a way to check if this is actual. I went to the National Arbitration website and can't find anything.
    If you can, help?
    Thank you!

This is concerning an unpaid loan - does your husband recognize anything about the claim and have the original loan papers? Did he agree to arbitration?

We need more info in order to answer. If it is NOT familiar to you, you need to write the firm and ask for additional information.

This sounds like a scam but some contracts do allow the creditor to go to arbitration, sometimes with very little notice to you.

    Hi!
Thank you for replying. I really appreciate it. It is an unpaid credit card debt. He was downsized in pay then laid off. West Asset bought the loan from Orchard Bank. We haven't been able to pay this. I finally went back to work, he now is back and we are trying to dig out. Not that any of this matters. He did not agree to arbitration. The letter we received (packet actually) stated that he has 30 days to respond or an award may be entered for the claimant. It doesn't have any further information except the technical this is what exhibit A is this is that. I went to the National Arbitration Forum website and I can't find any where to look this Forum File Number up or anything. It even says that you can enter your written response online with them and each time you click on it you go to a page that has more "informaion" on it but no place to put in the Forum File Number.

I truly do appreciate your help. I don't want to ignore something that can truly be a problem. I know how they can be and the tactics they weill use. I had one creditor call my neighbor, how they got the number I don't know, and tell him that a relative died and I needed to call the law firm to claim my inheritance.

    Thank you again!
    Kim
