    Garnished wages
I just started getting my wages garnished out my check and it's too much for me. I am a single mother of three and can't pay my other monthly bills. How can I get the payment lowered.

Contact whomever is garnishing your wages and see if they will lower it.

I wouldn't bet on it though. The amount is usually a set percentage.

    Hello T:

Garnishment percentages are set by state law. You could always make a motion to the court for a reduction. It couldn't hurt. Write a letter to the judge and tell him what you told us. I'd spell it out a little better than you did here, and I'd include a budget. Send your letter certified, return receipt requested, and send a copy to the opposing lawyer. Ask the judge to consider your letter to be a motion.
