    Hipaa violation?
    If I work in an ambulatory clinic and a friend of mine is supposed admitted to the hospital is it a hipaa violation for myself to look her up in our system to see if she has been admitted?

    Simple answer... YES it is!

    You cannot look anyone up for your own information. You can only get the information if you are DIRECTLY involved in her care.
