Any recommendations for whole house fan contractor?
I live in Delaware and am interested in installing a whole house fan. Does anyone know of someone in the area that has a lot of experience in whole house fans and can help us decide if it is the best way to go?

    Thanks!

If you have the 120 already there this is a very easy install. Whole house fans are easy to install with no joist cutting at all, just the drywall. I think any handyman can do it, would you like to try? We can help.

There's tons of vids for you to look at just to see what's available for you and your budget.

A standard attic/gable fan is fairly easy to install if the gable vents there are of size to work for fan. There's also Solar if you have no electric close for the fan. Many new fans have thermostats to turn on the fan or can buy one to install in line...

I checked out those fans, way more complicated than the ones I have been doing and way less volume. However, these are probably quieter. http://www.home-improvement-supersto...87&zmap=101006 These sit on top of the ceiling joist, no ductwork, nearly 7000 cfm.

You want to choose your fan as carefully as your installation contractor. There are a lot of variations in whole house comfort ventilators (as they are officially called by the Home Ventilating Institute). If you want a breeze blowing through the house, you will want a powerful fan, but remember that you need a big enough opening out of the attic (divide the airflow by 750 to determine the free area of the opening from the attic). Also remember that most of the big fans are noisy and don't close well when you're not using them. The cooling potential depends on the temperature difference between the inside and the outside of the house. A small fan is usually quieter and can be run longer. Look for an HVI Certified product to be sure that you're really getting the airflow you're paying for. Without the Certification, manufacturers can say anything they want.
