Installing a ceiling fan (hunter 27144) wires
I have a hunter ceiling fan (The Strafford/ 5 minute fan; Model 21311; Item #119--274) that I want to connect to a Hunter Universal Remote ( Model 27144-060).

The ceiling has the following wiring:

White wire, green wire, red, black, and a copper wire

The Fan housing has the following wiring:

White wire, green, black and white, and a black wire

    The remote box wiring:

Black (fan out), black (live in), white (common), white (neutral), red (light), and the remote wire.

My question is what is the connection process between the remote box wires and the fan wires? I have a new home and this is the first ceiling fan to be installed. I have installed ceiling fans in the past but with out a universal remote connected.

The presence of BOTH black and red wires in the ceiling box indicate two circuits. (Probably one switched for 'fan' and another switched for the 'light'.)

However - since you are going to use a remote - you will only need one of these two. The trick is to figure out if one is 'hot' all the time - or not. For a 'remote' installation - the constant hot is the one you want.

If both are switched - then I'd use the black wire in the ceiling - and cap off the red one.

    Ceiling black to remote 'live-in'.
    Ceiling white to remote 'white-neutral'.
Ceiling green + ceiling copper to FAN green.

Remote Black (fan-out) to Fan Black
Remote Red (Light-out) to Fan Black-and-white (this is the wire to the light fixture.)
    Remote White-common to Fan White
The 'remote' wire is an antenna - it doen't get connected to anything.

If you have switches then it is unlikely you fill find a hot wire in the ceiling 24/7. Are there more than one switch connected to this box, like maybe another location in the room or two switches in one box?
