My 9 year old step son desperately wants me to adopt him so he doesn't have to deal with hi "father" any longer. His birth Father had a vasectomy from a previous marriage and was vehemently opposed to having any children. My step son's Mother had to be artificially inseminated with donor sperm, against his "Dad's" wishes. He has never, EVER paid a single dime in child support and never wanted anything to do with him until I came into he and his mom's life a year ago. I love my new wife and step son dearly and I want this awesome young man to grow up in the genuine family environment he has long desired. What, if anything, can be done?

If he will merely sign over his rights to allow adoption, no problem, get the attorney and get the paper work going.

If he does not want to sign, start child support enforcement, get his pay check garnished for current and back support, ** I will assume there is a child support order in place
Perhaps a week in jail for non payment will help get him moving, or losing his drivers license.

So she has made it easy on her ex, so he has no reason to be anything but a pain. If he is costing him and he wants nothing to do with child, he is a lot more willing
