How do I legally lower my child support or alimony payments
I am divorced and got robbed out of a lot of money for the next 9 years. My ex refuses to work more than part time and insists on homeschooling my 2 children.

I see my children 12% of the time per year and, apparently according to MN law, I owe $1200/mo in child support for my 2 children and owe 1,000 for alimony. I am financially crushed. How can I reduce these payments. My ex is able to make payments on the home we built and lives a very comfortable lifestyle. I am living in a friend's basement, trying to make ends meet and save a little for the future and emergencies.

    Someone please help me.

Alimony usually ends at some point. Did you agree to pay it indefinitely? A good lawyer should be able to argue to have that modified.

How much time you get the kids is irrelevant to how much support you pay. Support is typically based on a percentage of your gross (pre tax) pay. 2 kids puts you somewhere in the 20% range, but I would have to look up specifics.

If you make less money now than you did when the payment was assessed you can go back and request a modification to support. If your income hasn't diminished, expect that it will not change.
