    Property tax deduction
I sold real property in 2008 that I inherited from my mother. There was a loss on the sale, but I can't claim the loss because there was personal use of the property. However, on the closing statement, I paid $487 in prorated property taxes. Can I deduct the property taxes on Schedule A even though I'm not claiming a loss on the sale? I did not live in the house but I allowed my brother to live in it.
