    Rent skimming in Florida?

    Well she has not paid the mortgage to the main bank since July 08, she hasn't paid the association fees since November 2007 and she has a line of credit open with her bank and I think that is the only one she is paying. When she just up and left to North Carolina in October she already knew she was losing her house she owes over $300K + legal fees... I highly doubt she is going to take the house out of foreclosure

    Hello again, J:

    California is the only state where "rent skimming" is illegal. Your obligations to her have nothing to do with her obligations to anyone.

    Having said that, and if you have a deposit with the landlord, you can kiss the deposit goodbye. If that means you should live out your last months rent (assuming you know when that is going to be), then that's what it means.
