    Restore parental rights
When my daughter was 3 my ex moved to SC. After 6 months of them living there she became a resident and filed papers to terminate my parental rights for abandonment. I appeared only twice to court there and then didn't appear again. My parental rights were eventually terminated by the SC courts. I never agreed or signed anything. Its been ten years and my daughter is now 14. I want to know what can be done to restore my parental rights so I can get visitation. I do not know if she was adopted by her step father.

If your rights were terminated, it is very unlikely you can do anything at this point. Chances are they were terminated to clear the way for an adoption.

I would contact a lawyer and have him check into the feasibility of any action... but I am not optimistic.

Most courts will not just terminate your rights for merely not being around, in fact most states have no laws to allow it.

Normally it is only done to make room for a new partner to adopt.

But if you have not been in the child's life for 14 years, you should merely contact them first thouggh the other parent and see if there can even ba a relationship
