Social security and Medicare while working abroad
    Hello There,

My US based employer relocated me to their UAE office about a year ago. My salary is paid in local currency from one of the local office here in UAE and therefore all the local rules apply. I know that I am eligible for Foreign Income Exclusion up to $87000. But my question is do I need to pay Social Security Tax and Medicare? Please keep in mind that my salary is paid from one of the local office and I am not on US's Office payrol anymore.

    Thank you

If you are an employee, then you do not pay SS tax and Medicare tax.
If you are an independent contractor, then you will pay these taxes.
