    Casement windows in bedroom
What are the pros and cons of installing replacement casement windows in an upstairs bedroom? I have read that they are more energy efficient than traditional double-hung. Why isn't it more common to see them in bedrooms?

Casement (crank) windows are a matter of taste.

You might think that they are more efficient, but it still depends on the design.

The use a gasket that compresses which is better for sealing than a sliding gasket.

But, watch out for big air leaks at the latches and the workmanship so that the window seals properly.

Casement windows generally have lower air infiltration rates than double hung and slider windows, but unless they are a certain size they do not meet local egress codes

While I agree with the previous statement the same is true for a double hung or a slider window. I don't recall off the top of my head but any bedroom window must be a certain size when open for egress.

Now you guys got me thinking. How big is big.
    Good points here
I think some of the codes has to also do with how high off the floor etc.
