I have a 30/50 pressure switch that is a part of my well system. When this switch is called on by normal system demands, it RAPIDLY FLICKERS ON & OFF. Sometimes for a short period 2-3 seconds, others for 5-7 seconds. When it does this it trips the breaker and then obvously - no water pressure.

I just replaced this switch this summer and it was a 18-24 months old.

How do I get things back in order?

Check the pressure in the well expansion tank to make sure it has air and no water coming out of the top tank valve. It should read less than 2lbs of what the high kick in on the flotrol is set or 2lbs of what the low kick in is set at (28lbs) low (48lbs) high if the switch is set at 50lbs
To check the tank to hear if its flooded bang on the bottom of the tank and work your way to the top and see if it changes sound about half way up If no change the bladder is bad or no air pressure in the tank. Flooded or a bad tank bladder and tank needs replaced.

Pump more air in to pressure the tank. If these pressure numbers aren't balanced with in that 2lb differences your flotrol switch will do what we call quick cycle. This is basically it for that part. The other problem could be the check valve in the well line is leaking and not holding pressure of its primed pressure. Check on that well gage to see if the pressure is holding. This is basically it unless the well pump is drawing too much current. Check all three and see how it goes.

Good advice above. You can also simply watch your pressure gauge. If it is moving rapidly, say from 35 to 50 while the pump is running in just a few seconds, then you suspect a waterlogged tank.
