heat loss through range hood vent
Hi! I'm new at this... I searched your site for answers to "can you have heat loss thru a range hood vent"? I live in the upstate New York area and it's been below 10 degrees for the last several days. I noticed I have icicles and ice over the vent to my range.

I went to Home Depot and found a product by Owens Corning called Foam Shield.. it is a soild but pliable foam insulation on a 5 1/2 x 50' roll... cost about $6.50.

I lined the cabinet containing the actual hose vent by securing it with caulk and then I took the two metal screen vents out of the hood and cut the insulation to the correct size and taped them to the vents and reinserted them in the hood. I can easily remove them if I should need to use the vent. I no longer have melting ice. Thanks ET

Check where your vent pipe terminates, it must have a passive cover that closes by itself, check for operation.

Vent Damper for Microwave Range Hood Duct? [ 13 Answers ]

I live in very cold winter climate and I am looking for ways to reduce loss of warm air. One obvious source is the over-the-range microwave vent. As far as I know, the only thing between the range vent and the outside is a chinzy little flapper on the microwave. It flaps in windy weather, which...

Range Hood Microwave install [ 1 Answers ]

Hi, I am replacing a standard range hood with a microwave and have a problem. I agree that it was way to low, so I took a few inches off the cabinet and it seems to be an OK height, but it is deeper than the cabinets so it sticks out and blocks the range top. I only need a few inches. ...

Jenn Air Range Hood [ 3 Answers ]

I bought a new Jenn-Air hood (JXT5830) to install over the range in my kitchen. I then connected the wires as per the instructions, but none of the front lights or functions worked. The company is the worst imaginable-- no help at all to installers, so I must rely on my friends here. I connected...
