heat loss through range hood vent
Hi! I'm new at this... I searched your site for answers to "can you have heat loss thru a range hood vent"? I live in the upstate New York area and it's been below 10 degrees for the last several days. I noticed I have icicles and ice over the vent to my range.
I went to Home Depot and found a product by Owens Corning called Foam Shield.. it is a soild but pliable foam insulation on a 5 1/2 x 50' roll... cost about $6.50.
I lined the cabinet containing the actual hose vent by securing it with caulk and then I took the two metal screen vents out of the hood and cut the insulation to the correct size and taped them to the vents and reinserted them in the hood. I can easily remove them if I should need to use the vent. I no longer have melting ice. Thanks ET
