    Exturnal hard drive on a 2 gig quad core system.
    Hi this is my first time on here so here go"s,
    I run my own recording studio and want to connect an exturnal hardrive to my computer via USB , I'm running a 2 gig quad core with a barracuder 500 gig hard drive using windows XP but when I turn my p.c on it will not boot up if my exturnal hardrive is connected to it is thair any way to set my p.c so I can leve it connected all the time ,I use an exturnal hardrive as I some times need to take my samples with me as that is what is storded on it.. please can some one tell me how to configer my system ,
    Please in basic turms as pos..

    First: disconect the HD

    Boot and enter the BIOS setup (as soon as the computer turns on, there should be something telling you hit __ to enter setup. Its usually [DEL] or [F2] or [F12]

    Once in the BIOS. You'll want to poke around until you find the Boot order (priority) make sure that 1) the HDD is first 2) if there is a choice for USB, make it last

    Next, look for USB Legacy support. Enable it.

    If that doesn't work...
    I would have to assume that since you have a quad core, you USB 2.0... for fun though... go buy a cheap cheap USB hub somewhere, plug that into the PC then plug the HD into that.

    Also, how big is the external drive? If over 500GB, you may want to try partitioning it. There are some cases that this has been a problem.
