    Running toilet
My upstairs toilet runs for about 10 seconds every twenty minutes.does that mean there is a leak or does the chain need to be adjusted?

    Leak.
Probably needs a new ball stop as the old one is likely not holding tight any longer. Cost about 5 dollars at Home Depot and takes about 3 minutes to exchange.

Ah yes. I just had the same problem and these guys helped me fix it!

It's probably your flapper. I cleaned mine and it has blissfully stopped! :)

Check the tank water level, it should be at the mark in the tank or 3/8 to 1/2" below the top of the over flow tube. Now look at the flapper, If it has wavy edges on the flat surface, replace it. The linkage between the flapper and the flush lever should have 1/4" play when the tank is filled. Also, check the small tube coming out of the top of the ballcock and make sure it's connect to and draining into the white overflow tube. Good luck, Tom

Toilet keeps running [ 2 Answers ]

I think I need to replace the 'float' system in the toilet. It appears, after filling, the float is not shutting off the water. I try to manually raise the float higher, but this does not work. While this is not a costly repair, could it be anything else?
