    Electric furnace not operating normally
Hello. We recently purchased a used mobile home. The heating and AC has been working fine until we went away for the Christmas Holiday (12 days). Last night, I smelled something like an old dryer - you know how the lint gets built up. Anyway, we noticed cold air return vent was rather warm to the touch and upon removing it felt very hot air excaping. The fan wouldn't come on. We cooled the unit off, reset breakers, cleared any dust that may have accumulated around openings and tried to start it with success. No funny smell. So we waited for a while and when nothing else happened, we went to bed (9 p.m.) Around 1 a.m. I smelled it again and the same situation was coming about, but we cut back the thermostat and reset the breakers again. Nothing this time. I got ready for work and by the time I was ready to leave at to a.m. the fan was working again. I have no idea what's happening here but want to know if it is safe to be running this unit until I can get a repairman out to look at it.

The Unit is an Intertherm MBC36CQD and is a split AC/electric furnace. All assistance is greatly appreciated.

PS we live in an agricultural area.

PSS When the fan switch is in auto it will not come on, but will blow air when in the on position.

PSSS It just starting making a whirring noise, so I'm shutting it down.

    Thanks much!

You could have a bad sequencer. The sequencer in that furnace controls the blower and the heat elements.

You could have a bad or intermittent blower motor.

No magic cure you just need to get it fixed properly.
