    Estate by Whirlpool, No spin.
Today, my washer decided to stop spinning. I don't know if she has gotten dizzy over the last 3 years or what, but she quit. I noticed it when the rinse cycle was to start and the noise of the machine changed a bit. When I peeked under the lid, the drum was not moving, but the motor sounded like it wanted to spin. The pump still works. As I was bailing my towels out of standing water to save them from drowning, the water came on briefly, I moved the dial to "spin" and the water drained out no problem... Capacitator maybe?? If possible, please send answers or any helpful info to [email protected] as I'm able to access that from my Blackberry at all times. Thanks in Advance! MATT

The problem is with the drive system/transmission. If this is a direct drive and not a belt drive it is time to call for professional on site service. If it is the transmission it is possible to still be under warranty for the part. Since you did not provide the exact model number this is all the assistance I can offer.

Given the age this is most likely a direct drive washer.

It is not be all that difficult to fix for a handy person. You can go to repairclinic.com for advice, instructions, etc, they also sell parts.

If the motor runs, but the transmission does not, it is the coupling. A small plastc and rubber part that breaks before anything expensive can break.

You need to take the cabinet off the washer to get to the motor and transmission. You should be able to fairly easy get the motor off and access to the coupling. Since you are there, even if it is not broken you should replace it.

After you replace it, make sure the agitator moves relatively freely, otherwise you will likely break the new one. If the transmission is broken, I guess you can replace it, but that is a lot more work.

Whirlpool Gold gsq9364hqo doesn't always spin on the spin cycle. [ 2 Answers ]

Whirlpool Gold gsq9364hqo doesn't always spin on the spin cycle. The motor runs but the basket doesn't spin. If I lift the lid the motor stops, then something (clutch or pawl?) catches and if I put the lid back down than it starts spinning correctly every time. Any ideas?
