I'm trying to help a neighbor with a Kenmore gas dryer that is not heating up. They have replaced the ignitor and it seems to be working but still no heat. Any suggestions?

boranjmmt - DO YOU HAVE A FLAME IN THE BURNER? IF YOU DO BUT NOT ENOUGH HEAT TO DRY THE CLOTHES:: #1- when you replaced the igniter you may have moved the air shutter out of adjustment; #2- to check and adjust it :: THE FLAME BURNS A MIXTURE OF GAS AND AIR: A VERY LIGHT BLUE FLAMEMAKEING A ROARING SOUND indicates too much air ,these improper mixtuures lead to poor combustion and inefficient heating. To correct the mixture s, ADJUST THE AIR SHUTTER<IN THE BURNER< SO THAT THE FLAME APPEARS LIGHT BLUE YET DOSE NOT ROAR< #3- to adjust the shutter ,loosen the thumb screw and move the shutter easy un till you have the light blue flame and no yellow tips on the flame ,retighten the thumb screw after you get it adjusted :: IF this don't work but the dryer does , DO NO MORE AND CALL A APPLIANCE REPAIRMAN THAT WORKS ON GAS APPLIANCES: STAY SAFE;; I WISH you and yours a HAPPY NEW YEAR AND A SAFE ONE ::GOD BLESS:: F.B.E.

Thank you FBE. I will see my neighbor again on Wed and will use your suggestions. In the meantime, while my neighbor has an appliance that won't heat up, I have a 7 yr old GE refrigerator model #GTS22 that does heat up. 5 times over the last year the fridge has warmed to the point where we have to empty it. The first couple times there was ice on the coils at the back of the freezer and in the holes at the top of the fridge. We defrosted it and regained normal operation. The third time (about 5 months ago) we called a service man who replaced a control unit (can't find the bill so don't know the exact part name but remember the part cost about $100.) and again had normal operation. Now our problem is different but similar. The fridge heats up and there is ice in the fridge holes but no ice on the freezer coils. We unplug the holes, empty and unplug the unit overnight and in the morning we notice no condensation or evidence of melting ice or defrost so we plug it in and regain normal operation. This has happened twice this month. We hesitate to call the service man although we recognize we could have a different problem now. Any experience with this problem? We would like to try and fix it ourselves.

boranjmmt - I will try to help you on this, but without me being there ,I can only pretty will guess the problem ;; #1- the service man probley replaced the fan inside the freezer and or the defrost timer. ;; THE FANS uselly run between $40.00 and to over a $100.00 or both:: #2 one other thing that wioll make the fridg. Run hot , under the bottom of the fridg. Is a coil, this coil will get covered pretty good with dust, fuzz, ECT> and what happins is that the freeon can not cool down to a liquid form again before going back into the compressor, Also check the fan in the back of the fridg. To make syre it is running. ;; #3- The ice that is still forming in the freezer in the back, is probley caused from the drain tube in the back of the freezer, that when the defrost unit comes on and defrosts the freezer the water can not drain out, take a soft clothes hanger and run it doun or up the tube to open it up , I also use a squeeze bulb ( BASSTING BULB ) to push warm water through the tube to help wash it out ;; this tube goes all the way to the bottom and drains into the pan under the fridg. #4 - NOTE < WHEN YOU USE THE ( VACAUMN UNDER THE FRIDG< BE CAREFUL AND USE THE PLASTIC WOND Don't WANT TO TEAR UP ANYTHING:: I hope this helps youal out ,I believe it will;;; HAPPY NEW YEAR AND A SAFE ONE;; f.B.E.
