My son is 21 and diagnosed with schizophenia,he is sensitive to medication.he has been on many meds,but nothing seems to help him they only cause side effects.his one complaint is the pains in his thighs and it doesn't even help if he lays down.he only wants to get out of pain and rest but he can't ,no meds work.im sure that the anti phychotic drugs are doing this because he has akethesia also.he is told that there is nothing wrong and the pain is all in his head,I'm very frustrated and don't hold out any hope.please help me figure this out.

I know alternative meds for schizo that may or may not help.
Some of the B vitamins are very important.

I haven't heard of that either so I can't add anything to the idea.

I caution any sudden changes in medications,the diagnosis (if correct) is to give him specific meds,as the guardian you already know the necessity of maintaining the dosage.

Has he been x-rayed or undergone an mri to discover any physical reason for the pain?

She said he is having problems with the meds.
He can not just quit them but if he is off them and not seeing himself taking any in the near future he could try the vitamins.

I am very cautious of someone(guardian,care giver) or someone who thinks the grass might be greener,and jumps ship for the other side,not considering the outcome,I only caution.

I think if I were you, I would look into the possibility of your son living in supportive residence setting if they exist in your state for men with schizophrenia.

I would tend to think that the pain in his thighs is generated in his mind. Why, I don't know. Perhaps, if his medication works, he is afraid of feeling better because more will be asked of him. I don't know.

Yes my son is taking his meds,they have lowered his dose of anti-phychotics a little.he has the rocking with is akathesia.thank you for trying to help

There is not always a "fix" for every human physcial and mental problem. Some can be controlled, others are just helped as much as possible. Often in mental and phycial issues not even doctors are always sure which is the cause and they use educated guesses at best.

Thanks chuck for your input ,its just so hard to settle for a guess when my son calls me begging or crying for me to help him.when you're a parent you never want to give up.

He is in a group home of three and he is not doing well ,he seems good when he has little or no pain.he really has a low threshold for pain.I know this pain is real and on going because he has been complaining since summer and it s getting worse or at its peak because he can't stand it anymore.he only wants to get better so he can make something of his life.what a waste of a human life.we have prayed for his recovery or at least an understanding of his ailments but we never do know what is wrong . And this is 3 years later:(

there is no changes in his meds.he is in assited living,and takes his meds regularly.he has had several x-rays ,mri and cat scans to find nothing.im thinking fibromaylia do to aches and pains since he has been comlaining for about 3 years.
