How do I move a program from a PC to a laptop?
I have a genealogy program on my PC that I want to move to my Acer laptop. I have tried using a briefcase and networking using the ethernet. The program and all of its files show up on the laptop but they will not open. I have tried running driver detective but to no avail.
How do I find the driver on the PC and move it with the program so the program will run properly? Both computers are using Windows XP. The Acer laptop does not have a CD drive so I cannot load the program that way and if I did, the database would not be filled in.
    Thanks

You need to reinstall the Genealogy software on the Laptop (as you don't have a CDROM on the laptop, you could try a USB memory key, you can use Windows Explorer to open the contents of the CD and transfer all the files to the USB Memory Key),

Then on your PC browse to C:\Program Files and the name of the Genealogy software, look for the Save files and copy those also to the memory key also, once the software is reinstalled on your Laptop, transfer the Save files to the correct folder in Program Files.

You cannot transfer a program that has been installed on a PC straight to a laptop as that is impossible as there are also system and registry files.

I understand that... but how do I save the program on a memory key (I assume you mean a flash drive)? When I put the installation disk in the PC the program runs with no installation possible.

Insert the CD, let it autorun, and then cancel out of it. Then go to Start / Programs / Windows Explorer (may differ slightly on what Operating System u have), browse to the CD from the left hand pane, highlight all the files and select "copy to" and choose the flash drives location.
