Yesterday our 5.5 year old hot water tank was replaced. Today some give hot water and others do not. For instance in a bathroom with 2 sinks, a tub and walk in shower one sink has hot and one does not. The tub has hot but the shower has none.

What can I try?

Further, I just turned off the main and opened every faucet that I could (not washing machine or 2 lines to the outside). After the draining stopped I opened the main and began closing faucets after the sputtering stopped. All were hot as I closed them but when I went back and tried them again, the original pattern of no hot water was in place again!

What has happened here is that while installing the new heater you disturbed some minerals built up in the pipe walls and the crud's now blocking the inlet ports of the faucet cartridges. The solution would be to open up the faucets that have problems and check and clean the inlet ports in the cartridge. At the same time you must turn the water back on for a few seconds to flush out the supplies and open valve body. You should have a strong stream coming through the supplies. If nor then let me know. Do this to all the faucets and supplies in question. Good luck, Ton

Thank you speedball1 butI don't think that will help. I have learned more - we have two separate shower heads in our master shower. If either one is on, it will run cold. If I turn them both on, they both run hot! This is too bizarre.

Speedball1 or anyone,

I have found other sets of faucets which if on alone have no hot water and no noise. If I turn on a second, nearby faucet, the hot water flows in both and a pipe starts "slamming".

I am definitely not a plumber that really sounds like air in the pipes to me.

What is the best way to remove air from water pipes?
