I want to use fluorescent lights in my fan, But my light kit came with a dimmer. I have cut out the dimmer, But now I need to connect the cut ends to get this whole thing working. Please take a look at a jpg picture I have put up on my site.

As you know you cant' use a dimmer on fluorescent lights, and why throw away a good fixture!

Some CFL's are dimmable. Getting more popular. You may have to go to a real electrical distributor, or:

I know that you can buy dimmer compatible fluorescent bulbs but I'm not willing to go out and pay that kind of money. I have stated that I have already CUT OUT the dimmer and now I need to re-wire the fixture. I need you to look at the diagram I have made and instruct me how to connect them.

As far as the diagram, where is the dimmer wiring?

If the dimmer had two wires, just connect those two wires together.

Sorry I don't see the dimmer. Is that large black symbol labeled pigtail to base a harness to a electronic module? Is that where the dimmer is?

I may not be of much help with a smart fan such as this, not much experience. Our resident fan expert Ceilingfanrepair will be by soon, may be a day or so, he will zone right in the problem.

Hopefully, if I cannot help, you can wait for him to check in.

Your diagram does not make much sense to me.

What make/model fan did you have, where was the dimmer, and how was it wired? How many wires did it have?

As TK stated, if you easily removed it, normally you just connect the two wires together.

But if this is a remote fan you're screwed.

That component is not a dimmer, but the AC Run capacitor for the motor.

Your going to have more problems than not being able to dim the fluorescent lamps.

Well, Doesn't that just make my week!

I can't think of a more aggravating week for me in some time!

O.K. lets say I hook all that stuff back up. Then where do I find the bloody Dimmer?
Also what would it look like?

How is it controlled?

Why not just cave in an get dimmable CFL lamps? The cost is not that much more than regular ones. Best of both worlds.
