    Installing fenceposts into rocky ground
Does anyone know where I can find the solid concrete blocks that hold stop sign metal posts - see them all the time in the parking lots of various stores.

My question is regarding installing fence posts into ground that is extremely rocky.

I want to have wooden posts (4x4) and install a 4 foot high shadow box style privacy fence on them.

The idea is to put the wooden post on the metal post that is installed in the block because no way would it be possible to drill through the rocky ground (80% rock) to install the posts properly - too expensive.

Here is what I would do:

Go to the local hardware store and get some of the forms for tube footings:

Then just cut it off at the desired heights of your concrete footings. You can probably get 4 or 5 out of every tube.

Then find the fencing T post that you use for signs:

Cut that off into sections with a grinder. Pour concrete into footing and place the T-Post sections in the concrete and you have your footings.
